Vintage Halloween Mask

Boo!

This fellow is one of a set of treasures I got a couple of years ago, just before the late, lamented 2nd Hand Hube Antique Mall closed. I sure do miss that place. Anyway, I got a bunch of these very cool vintage paper masks, made in Japan. I would guess they are from the 40s or 50s. There are 7 different characters, but this one is my favorite.

NaNoWriMo, aka National Novel Writing Month starts Wednesday. During NaNoWriMo writers, aspiring writers, people who aren’t sure or not if they are or want to be writers and, well any other writers that I forgot, sign up to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November.

I’ve signed up for NaNoWriMo for three years now, without much to show at the end of the month. I’m not sure quite why I think I want to write fiction; I’m hoping doing it will help me figure it out. Anyway, I’m off to a better start than usual this year–I actually have an idea! I also have a few characters, and something resembling a skeleton of a plot. Planning ahead of time is allowed, even encouraged, it’s just the actual writing that has to be done in November.

I’ll be tracking my progress here, and maybe asking for your help. For beginners, has anyone out there ever visited the site of a famous Marian apparition? Lourdes or Fatima or elsewhere? Want to tell me what it was like?

See you.
